Hi Norris,

Well, I don't know how good my answers are going to be at this time. I've neither seen nor heard nor measured the woofer yet!

I don't think that driving the second voice coil on a totally separate circuit is going to effect what your tube amp is doing. It should only have an effect on the low bass. I'll have to do some experimenting to get things dialed in right so that the blend is undetectable, but assuming I've modelled it correctly that will be do-able.

Now theoretically voice coil heating from the plate amp putting more power into that second voice coil could be an issue, but the speaker will be designed to be linear at prosound input levels so at normal home levels I doubt that voice coil heating will be a factor. I'll post more about this when I find out the specifics.

I'm hoping for efficiency in the 96 dB ballpark, but don't know for sure on that yet. Normally that would get us down to an honest 40 Hz in a five cubic foot box (and deeper with some boundary reinforcement), but I think we can get down into the mid 20's using the schizophrenic woofer in a five cubic foot box.

The kit would probably include the same waveguide and compression driver I use in my other speakers. One note on compression drivers and waveguides - the driver geometry matters a lot; you can't just stick "the best" driver on the waveguide and get great results. A driver with a long "snout" like a TAD or Altec or Fostex alnico does not work as well as one where the diaphragm is much closer to the exit. I'm open to consdering alternatives to the Beyma if you or anyone else have suggestions.

Thanks for your enthusiasm, Norris!

Duke
