Duke,

Please tell us more about the sonic effect that the plate amp would have over all. Per our previous conversations, I have expressed the desire to obtain a coherent speaker with the ability to play a fairly loud SPL with a 10+ watt triode amplifier.

I am wondering with this plate amplifier included in the mix, if it would destroy the sound character of the triode amplifier running the other coil? Or, would it only have an effect sonically in the frequency band where it will be used, say 50Hz and below? Maybe work something like running a seperate subwoofer below 50Hz?

Since you have mentioned a kit for this woofer. Would you elaborate on what type of design, to include the high frequency driver that would be included? Something like a 5 cubic foot or less two-way design that uses the new 12" woofer. Mated to a Beyma 385nd or better and waveguide, would be realistic for the average living room, and (ME).

I feel the one box speaker solution would be more homogenous over all.

Personally, I would be very happy with a speaker that is capable of a prominant frequency resonse from 30HZ in room to around 20kHz. And would ROCK on a push pull 2A3 amp from 10 to 12 watts.
Of course, sounding better than most of the exotic speakers on the market at a substantial price savings would not hurt either.

It would be an instant hit.

Reality usually dictates that we can't have it all. But heck, why not try to get it anyways?

Please keep us updated to additional information? This woofer sounds to be very intriquing, something special the DIY community could use.

Norris
