Re: The size of the room
You might do a search here for "small rooms" and "room modes."

Re: The shape of the room
The ideal room is outdoors, because there are no walls or ceiling to act as reflectors. Obviously, that's not an option so next best thing would be a very large, well-damped room having randomly contoured walls with no large flat surfaces. That's proba...

Re: The shape of the room
Square rooms aren't good because room modes are strong. You would definitely benefit from multisubs - in any small room actually - but even more so if the room is square.

Re: Sound for small gym
Room modes are less a problem in large rooms. The bigger problem in gymnasiums is the hard, reflective surfaces on all sides. It makes a midrange reflection problem, and a lot of echo. The directivity of the speakers will help, and that's sometimes as...

Sound for small gym
I am providing the sound system for a fall festival/dance we are having in our school gym. The gym is fairly small and there is only about 5 feet of space beyond basketball court to the block walls. Will be setting up in the narrower side under the baske...

Re: Two Subwoofers
Outside and inside are very different. Outside, you want all sources to combine coherently. This means you want sound sources grouped together, and their acoustic centers aligned. When two subs are placed at each ends of a stage, bass suffers from...

Re: Subwoofer Setup
That's great to hear, Barry. Thanks for the feedback! As you and I have discussed, I'm a big proponent of multisubs but I consider the flanking sub aspect to be an additional requirement. I think that distributed multisubs by themselves only solve p...

Subwoofer Setup
My high school photography instructor was the one that got me into audio. Don't know if he did me a great favor or not but ... His audio room is particularly boomy. He's been running his system with several subs for a few years ever since he heard wha...

Re: 3Pi Sub plans, and some other questions.
You've got mail! Vented and sealed subs are generally pretty tolerant of modifications. They are acoustically small, so standing waves don't setup inside. So basically, as long as the internal volume and port remain the same, you can expect performa...
