Dream Maker kits

As I look at the current economic downturn/uncertainty, it seems to me that in the near future at least people will be spending less money on their expensive toys. Actually, I'm seeing that already.

So part of the answer for me is to develop at least one system that is much more affordable than the ones I've been doing. To finance that undertaking, I need to sell off some stuff that I have on hand.

I have several sets of maple Dream Maker enclosures on hand, along with drivers. I have some waveguides, and can get more. Anyway, it occurs to me that I need to get past my nervousness about selling my crossover design and sell some kits.

To those who aren't familiar with, the Dream Maker is a fairly high-efficiency, tube-friendly bipolar speaker that I showed at Lone Star earlier this year. It subsequently received a 2008 Golden Ear Award from Robert Greene of The Absolute Sound. He was later asked why he saw fit to give that award, and at the link below is his reply.

For those of you who aren't likely to click on the link, here are a few quotes from Robert's post:

"They have a really impressive ability to interact with the listening room correctly. (This is a speaker where DSP correction is all but irrelevant for instance--almost nothing happens--and there are few of those around, I assure you).

"I think the wavegide idea is a good one and this seemed to me a particularly convincing instance. The speaker also strikes me as a bargain [$9000 a pair]. In a world where people are paying more than twice its price for minimonitors, here is a speaker with real bottom end extension, full range sound, real scope and dynamics, for a rational price."

Anyway, back to the kit. Some work will be needed on the cabinet, and I would not be suppling the crossover but rather a schematic. The builder could improve on the original by using hotrod crossover parts that are not cost-effective for me to use.

I would offer the kit for well below the retail cost of the parts plus actual cost of the cabinet: $5000 plus shipping.

Thanks for taking a look.
